Fort Thomas and Newport:
Located in Campbell County in Northern Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati, are the historic towns of Fort Thomas and Newport. Fort Thomas is an attractive, residential community with outstanding schools and a progressive city government. Established in 1867 as District of the Highlands and renamed Fort Thomas in 1914 for the Army post that was in operation here. Fort Thomas lies along a bluff overlooking the Ohio River. Newport is the county seat and was established in 1795 by James Taylor. Newport is named in honor of Admiral Christopher Newport. Admiral Newport had led the first English settlement at Jamestown, which is in Taylor’s native state of Virginia. Newport is also a mostly residential community known for its good schools, excellent parks system and family oriented atmosphere. Both cities have a population of around 15,000 residents. The area’s real estate market is diverse and quite affordable. A select few condominiums and townhouses - most with river views -- can be found starting at around $125,000 and running up to $500,000. Single-family homes start at under $50,000 for older models and run up to nearly $1 million for large estate properties. A number of historic homes are also available.
